In quick time you get used to the differences and it's hard to remember what pfsense was like. but in honesty, this is the same kind of off-putting when I drive someone else's car and accidentally put on the windshield wipers when trying to signal. pfSense+ runs on a newer version of FreeBSD so if you need newer hardware support with pfSense, you will have to upgrade to.

Depending on the hardware you are using with pfSense, you may run into hardware compatibility issues such as drivers for 2.5G network interfaces. There was a difficulty in getting used to the gui. I already ordered the Protectli Vault which should be here by the weekend so I can run whichever 'sense OS I decide on. I'm still working on finding a package on OPNsense that does what Darkstat does on PfSense and a few other things but so far I like OPNsense. Today I discovered stories about how PfSense reacted when OPNsense forked away a few years ago and now I'm considering putting OPNsense on the Vault since it seems to run well so far. Other than the traffic graph on the dashboard not flowing or looking the way prefer it's been a decent experience but I was still planning to get a Proctectli Vault and put PfSense on it. A couple weeks ago I decided to try OPNsense on the Dell Optiplex i5 3470 I've been running PfSense on for about a year now. I've been running PfSense off and on for almost 4 years on old PC hardware and loved it other than the power usage on a full PC.
